The Super Bowl is right around the corner. In fact, for those of you who are big Giants or Patriots fans, you probably know the exact countdown to kickoff. Having lived in the Sooner State for four years of my life, I am pretty much committed to the Sooners, so NFL isn't always my thing. I'll tell you what is my thing- finding the best new snacks and appetizers to feed everyone that comes over for the big game. Hey guess what, there's an app for that!

The All Recipes Dinner Spinner is awesome! I love that these recipes are easy, yet interesting...often times Super Bowl parties have the same boring snack food. This year, our guests will be full on pickled mushrooms, chicken and shrimp egg rolls and crispy cheese straws! It's free to download and has a fun interface where you choose the type of food you want, ingredients to include and level of ease...these choices make game day food even more fun!

For those of you who have Verizon Wireless smartphones, the VZW NFL Mobile app might honestly save the day! Not everyone has the luxury of sitting down in front of a giant tv to watch the big game, but with the help of NFL Mobile, you access live game audio, real time scores, stats and highlights. Just download this free app directly to your smartphone and stress a little less if you're stuck at work all afternoon!

Definitely looking forward to Super Bowl this year! What are some of your favorite superbowl apps?

OKLAHOMA CITY – Harkins Bricktown Theatres has formed a sponsorship partnership with Citizens Caring for Children, a nonprofit agency that provides clothing, school supplies and other necessities to foster children around the state.

“We provide opportunities for the community to connect with foster children who have been removed from their homes due to abuse or neglect,” said Amy Mitchell, executive director of Citizens Caring for Children. “Sometimes they literally have nothing but the clothing on their backs and need basic things like shoes; others need a support system to help them through the tough times. Through this partnership with Harkins, we hope to spread our message and continue to help the children of our state.”

Harkins will run advertisements for Citizens Caring for Children in its theaters, as well as coordinating fundraising opportunities and private screenings for mentors. – Staff report

A report from the Pew Internet and American Life Project, released Jan. 23, 2012, found that 29 percent of Americans owned at least one tablet or e-reader as of the beginning of this month. That’s up from 18 percent who said the same in December.

SAN FRANCISCO — Tablets and e-readers were a popular gift over the holidays, so much so that the number of people who own them nearly doubled between mid-December and January, a new study finds.

A report from the Pew Internet and American Life Project, released on Monday, found that 29 percent of Americans owned at least one tablet or e-reader as of the beginning of this month. That’s up from 18 percent who said the same in December.

The iPad from Apple Inc. is perhaps the best-known example of these gadgets, along with Amazon.com’s various Kindle devices and the Nook from Barnes and Noble. The iPad put tablets on the map and the cheaper Kindle Fire and Nook devices helped get them in the hands of more people.

The percentage of people who own a tablet jumped to 19 from 10 between mid-December and early January. E-book reader ownership also rose to 19 percent from 10 percent of U.S. adults.

Men and women were equally likely to own tablets, and the likelihood of tablet ownership was higher for people with higher household incomes, the report found. Those with higher levels of education were also more likely to own tablets than those who completed fewer years of school.

E-readers, meanwhile, were slightly more common among women. The figures are from ongoing surveys conducted by Pew about tablet and e-reader ownership. They were conducted between November 2011 and January 2012.
